Mass is held every day of the week except Saturdays, and there are plenty of other opportunities to pray and worship our Lord. Our Priest is Father John MB Smethhurst MA (oxon). Father John studied in Oxford from 1963 to 1968 - first at St Peters college, where he gained a degree in Theology, and then St Stephens House where he trained for the Anglican ministry. After ordination in the Church of England, he served from 1968 to 1976 in the Anglican diocese of London.
Father John first came to Torquay as chaplain and lecturer at the South Devon Technical College. He became Vicar of St Thomas the Apostle, Keyham, Plymouth in 1980 and stayed there until 1997, when he was received into full communion with the Catholic Church. Following a year at St John's Seminary, Wonersh, Father John returned to Torquay having been ordained as a Catholic Priest in 1999. He served at Sacred Heart, Paignton and as chaplain at Torbay hospital. He became Parish Priest at the Catholic Church of the Holy Angels in 2009.
